Review ~ Hope By Morgan Parker ~ A Novella

Morgan Barker, the lead character of Non Friction and brilliant author of Our Story, has all but recovered from the heartache caused by Emma. But when his company’s accounting firm sends a beautiful young woman named Hope to inquire about some suspicious account practices, Morgan finds himself lured back into the beautiful story that he created and wanted to forget about. Except this new story is different than Morgan’s unpublished, never-seen-before version. Read deeper into Olivia and Oliver’s ongoing and difficult love affair, their secret moments and the struggle that kept them apart for so long. – Hope, February 2014.

Author Morgan Parker:

Morgan Parker is the pen name for a shy and introverted banker. He currently divides his time between Toronto, Canada and his imagination. When he isn’t writing or working with clients or relaxing at Balzac’s with a medium non-fat cappuccino, Morgan Parker enjoys spending time with his family. And sleeping, preferably on a bed (the left side) but depending on the day, he can pretty much curl up anywhere. No, he is not currently accepting applications for cuddling partners.

Ramblings . . .

Morgan Parker is back with more of Morgan Barker’s story – kinda. Put simply, Hope is a story within a story. If you read Non Friction and LOVED it like I did then you will want to read this! Hope is about ‘Our Story’ which is the story Morgan Barker was writing in Non Friction. You following? Hope is about Oliver and Olivia from ‘Our Story’ but Emma’s version of events. It’s not as tricky as it sounds I swear. Hope is a person by the way, a friend of Emma’s that gives Emma’s story to Morgan to read.

I was thrilled when Amy Louise Clarke approached us on behalf of Morgan Parker to check out the ARC for this baby because as mentioned before I just loved Non-Friction (You can check out my review here). Hope fills the little void that Non-Friction leaves you feeling. Yes! A chance to get back to Emma and Morgan – ish. I felt that Oliver and Olivia’s story was based heavily on Morgan and Emma’s. So whilst reading Hope, I wonder, is this how it will work out for Morgan and Emma, but will they get a happy ending like in Emma’s version of ‘Our Story’.

I felt a slight case of Déjà vu whilst reading this story. It was quite heart-breaking to read as two people fall deeply in love but each have a whole carriage of baggage in the form of wives, children, partners and miles between them. Real life puts the brakes on their true romance. As with any romance, I wanted them to fall into each other’s arms and get on with it. But that just wouldn't happen here. Gahhh. It took time and age for these two to finally bang their heads together. There-in lies the sadness. This is a bittersweet story. I loved in nonetheless.

In my personal opinion, Oliver and Olivia’s story is Emma’s way of reaching out to Morgan once more. Hope is there to guide him in the right direction but will he follow? I won’t give too much away because you really need to read this for yourself  (After reading Non-Friction if you haven’t done already).

Hope is a short novella that took me all of a couple of hours to read. Mostly because I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t put it down. It feels kind of like a bridge to the next chapter of Morgan and Emma’s story. I thoroughly enjoy Morgan Parker’s writing style. His stories are easy and real. He makes a connection with his readers and always leaves you guessing. Possibly a a blessing in disguise but I appreciate a good guessing game if done in the right manner. Which Morgan always seems to do. Anyway, my review is becoming longer than Hope itself so quit reading this and go check it out for yourself!

A somewhat light-hearted, bittersweet love story that leaves you reeling for more! So hurry Morgan and feed us!
